Microsoft C#.NET
C# (pronounced see sharp and not c hash!) and VB.Net are siblings, with their parent being the .Net framework. For many years software programmers have obsessed over the merits of C# versus VB but the only thing that really separates them is the syntax. In the early days here at Atlas we preferred VB but we’re now huge C# fans primarily because:
- C#.Net coders tend to be better than VB.Net coders. This is usually because VB .Net coders come from classic ASP and VBA backgrounds, while C# coders tend to come from C and C++ backgrounds
- C# coders are easier to find, and C# is taught on more or less every professional .Net training course.
- C# is more succinct. In other words it’s possible to do more with less code, which is always a good thing so long as the code is still maintainable
Geek Fact
C# was originally codenamed COOL, which stood for C-like Object Oriented Language.
